		<description>The question has come up several times, Dose the wing have a long boost lag with the turbo mounted so far from the engine


It seems a lot of people think lag is created by distance from the engine, in most car turbo applications the charge side is almost 12 feet long or more if you fallow the path from the turbo to the intercooler and back to the throttle body, on the Wing it is only about four and a half feet, I used the gas tank as a form of intercooler by routing the charge air thru the custom built gas tank (which by the way holds almost a gallon more fuel then the stock tank) On most car applications the exhaust to the turbo can be seen as close as right off the head to all the way to the back of the car as is found on the Squires Turbo Systems - Turbocharged Innovation!  

 

Turbo lag can be caused by many things, the most common is from an unmatched or un balanced systems, (AR ratios need to be set for the system your building). Or it could be as simple as poorly tuned, on the wing I have put together a reliable system that provides bust in the higher rpm rang because with all the bottom end torque you already have with the 1800 you really don't need to add much in this area. If you do, this is were you could sacrifice reliability, I designed it so on any normal ride you can literally ride all day and never see any boost but its there when you want or need it, this makes your bike completely reliable.

 

Here’s how it works, Take two identical GL1800’s. If you launch hard from a stop in a side by side  race, one stock and one with my turbo kit, by the time you see 60 mph the turbo bike will be more then eight bike lengths ahead but only see about 3 psi of boost during this quick run, now lets say your cursing at 50 mph and you both crack the throttle running up to 120 mph, during this run the turbo bike will see 7 to 8 psi almost instantly (no boost lag) and will leave the non turbo bike so far behind it looks like he didn't even crack the throttle 

 

For example, my girl friend and I were cursing down the freeway at 70 mph, our combined weight on my bike was almost 400 lbs we were riding beside a friend on his wing (both the same year 2006's) my friend only weighed 190lbs. we both rolled on the throttle in fifth gear, I started puling away immediately so he shifted down and still could not keep up, in only seconds we had hit almost 135 mph and he was so far behind we though he had given up, you should have seen the look of unbelief on his face. Priceless!!!! J 

 

Another thing to note is I’m running a car tire (just wanted to try it) and the extra weight or inertia can steel a lot of power and it still performs like it dose 

 

Regarding boost lag you can say there is nothing to be concerned with on the wing because we are not trying to build a quarter mile race machine just an awesome cursing machine
